Our Story
Selena and Tyson met in 2012, in the graduate creative writing program at the University of Houston. Tyson was smitten on sight. However, due to a recent Achilles repair, was also in crutches, so it took several months for Selena to recognize exactly how great of a catch he might be. On their first date together, they went to a famous Houston diner, House of Pies, where they talked about anything and everything. Humor was what brought them together—her's wry, his showing potential. By the end of that dinner, Tyson was firmly in love.
Selena met Tyson’s college buddies in Chicago in March 2013, then, because she’d passed that test, his family in July 2013. Meanwhile, Tyson had had many opportunities to hang out with the Andersons, who, for one thing, brought him to his first Texas high school football game. He was wary of the hype, but yes, it was just like on TV. Tyson popped the question in January 2015, and Selena literally jumped up in the air and said yes.
Even though Selena and Tyson met in a writing program, their shared interests aren’t limited to rummaging around obscure, used bookstores together. They also like to watch sports together, especially basketball, especially when Tyson’s Blazers are beating Selena’s Rockets in the playoffs, and they like to travel together, too—Austin, Chicago, New York, and New Orleans are just a few of the places they’ve been. And they love, love, love to dance!
Selena and Tyson absolutely can’t wait for their wedding day, when they’ll be able to celebrate with all their friends and family. They are excited to see you there!
